Short answer
What to know first
Pet supplies from China are mostly simple goods: beds, mats, bowls, leashes and grooming tools. Many 1688 listings show a minimum order of one or two units. That number comes from the listing, and your own colors or packaging usually mean a higher one. With bulky items like beds, freight can decide the margin. Our quote uses the real carton size, so the landed cost is known before you commit.
Products
What we source in pet supplies
Accessories make up the category. Each group has one detail that decides whether the product works.
Beds, mats and crate pads
Foam and fiber-filled dog and cat beds, cooling mats and crate pads. As the bulkiest items in the category, their packed size matters as much as the unit price. Vacuum compression cuts the carton count. Ask whether the bed recovers its shape afterwards, and check a sample.Bowls and feeders
Stainless steel, ceramic and plastic bowls, slow feeders and travel bowls. Ceramic is heavy and can break, so packing drives freight and damage. Stainless bowls ship easily but differ in steel grade and finish between sellers whose photos look the same.Leashes, collars and harnesses
Nylon webbing, reflective tape and metal hardware. They are light and cheap to ship. The weak point is the hardware, so buckles and snap hooks get the closest look.Grooming tools
Grooming gloves, slicker brushes, nail clippers and deshedding combs. Small and light, they consolidate well with other products in one shipment.
Where we buy
Where pet supplies come from
We buy on 1688, China's domestic wholesale site, and in the Yiwu International Trade City. The site is good for comparing many sellers at once. The market is in our own city, so goods can be handled before we suggest a seller.
Yiwu market, District 5, floor 2
The official Chinagoods directory lists pet and aquarium supplies on this floor. It is our first stop for pet accessories. The same floor lists bedding and home textiles, which helps when comparing fabrics and fillings for beds.
1688 sellers across China
Many pet accessory makers sell on 1688 without a stall in Yiwu. We compare them there and have samples sent to our partner warehouse in Yiwu together with the packing data.
MOQ and price
Minimum orders and what drives the price
A 1688 listing shows a minimum order, and it is often very low. In our MOQ study of 120 result rows across 12 searches, 102 listed a minimum of two units or fewer. What a seller accepts for your own colors and packaging is a separate question, so we ask before we quote.
For beds, the price follows size and filling, and freight comes right after. For bowls it follows material and weight. For leashes it follows the hardware and how many colors you want in one order.
Package data on listings is thin. In our shipping-weight study, none of the 10 pet bed listings we sampled gave complete package dimensions. A freight estimate without them is a guess, so we get the carton size from the seller first.
Cheaper look-alikes are common. In our image-search pilot, all four pet bowl listings we started from had a cheaper visual match on the first page of results. A visual match is not proof of the same product, so we compare material and weight before we switch sellers.
From our published 1688 data
102 of 120 sampled 1688 rows listed a minimum order of two units or fewer.
0 of 10 sampled pet bed listings gave complete package dimensions.
4 of 4 pet bowl listings in our pilot had a cheaper visual match.
Small, non-random samples. Listing fields are what sellers display, and they are not quotes or audited facts.
Customs
HS code starting points
Use these as a starting point when you talk to your customs broker. The final code depends on what the product is made of and where you import it.
Swipe sideways to see every column →
| Product | Starting code | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Leashes, collars, harnesses and dog coats | 4201.00 | Heading 4201 covers harness for any animal, of any material, including leads and dog coats. |
| Pet bowls | 7323.93 or 3924.90 | Stainless steel household articles start at 7323.93. Plastic bowls are usually reviewed under 3924.90. |
| Textile pet beds | 6307.90 | Often reviewed as made-up textile articles. Beds with a frame or a mattress-style build can land elsewhere, so ask for a ruling on large orders. |
| Plastic chew and play items | 3926.90 | Items made for pets are classified by material. Plastic ones usually start here. |
| Grooming brushes | 9603.90 | Brushes that are not for use on the person are usually reviewed here. |
Duty rates change and depend on origin and trade measures, so we estimate them per quote from the official tariff. The final classification is made by you or your customs broker.
Compliance
Compliance checks by destination
In our certificate display study, none of the 20 top-ranked 1688 listings in the pet category showed a certificate on the listing. A missing display does not mean a missing document, so we ask the seller directly and tell you what we cannot verify.
United States
California Proposition 65 warnings can apply when a listed chemical is present, such as some phthalates in soft PVC. Check the material list before you sell in California.
European Union
Pet products sold to consumers fall under the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988. It asks for an EU-based responsible person and traceability details on the product or its packaging.
United Kingdom
UK product safety law applies to consumer pet goods. Check who acts as the importer and what goes on the label.
Pet food, treats and supplements
These are ingestibles. They go through our restricted-products review before any quote, and we may decline them.
We collect and compare documents. We are not a test lab or a certification body, and rules change, so confirm the current requirement with the official source for your market.
Quality
Common quality problems and what we check
Goods from every order are counted and checked at our partner warehouse in Yiwu before they ship. For pet supplies we look hardest at these.
Beds that stay flat or smell after compression
On opened sample units we check how the bed recovers and whether it smells, with photos of the filling.Weak seams and zips on bed covers
We pull seams and run zips on sample units, and compare the fabric with the approved sample.Hardware that bends or rusts
We work buckles and snap hooks by hand and look for plating flaws. If you plan to print a load rating, we suggest a lab test first.Wrong size split in the carton
We count units per size against the invoice and photograph the size labels.Chinese inserts and unapproved claims on packaging
We flag inserts and printed claims you did not approve, and we can remove inserts before shipping.

The quote is free. If we find the supplier, the fee is 5% on the first $5,000 of goods, 4% up to $20,000 and 3% above, with a $49 minimum. If you already have a supplier, order follow-up is 3%.
You pay Supplymo by bank transfer to our WorldFirst account. You never pay a supplier directly, and nothing is paid to one without your written approval.
What is the minimum order for pet supplies from China?
It depends on the seller and the product. Many 1688 listings show one or two units, but custom colors, logos or packaging usually raise it. We confirm the real minimum with the seller before you pay.
Can you source pet food or treats?
Only after review. Food, treats and supplements are ingestibles, so our restricted-products check comes first and we may decline them. Accessories like beds and bowls are simpler to quote.
Why is shipping so expensive for pet beds?
Beds are light but large, and freight is charged on volume as well as weight. Compressed packing can cut the carton count. We ask the seller for packed dimensions and price freight on those before we quote.
Can you put my brand on pet products?
Yes, on most accessories. Printed logos, woven labels and custom boxes usually raise the minimum order and add a sample round. The quote lists those costs separately.
Do pet products need certificates?
It depends on the product and where you sell it. General product safety rules apply in each of our main markets, and marketplaces can ask for their own documents. We ask the seller for what they hold and tell you what we cannot verify.
How much do you charge to source pet supplies?
The quote is free. Our service fee is 5% down to 3% of the goods value with a $49 minimum, and there is no markup on supplier prices. Samples-only orders have no service fee.
