Destination facts and official boundaries
Canada charges GST/HST and possible duty on imports, with limited low-value relief for courier shipments. A low 1688 price is only the start of your real landed cost.
- Low-value relief is narrow
- Under CUSMA, courier shipments may see duty relief under CA$150 and tax relief under CA$40, but this does not apply to all shipments or origins. Goods from China are not automatically tax-free — assume GST/HST can apply.
- GST/HST plus duty, by province
- GST (5%) or HST (up to 15% depending on province) applies on most imports, plus possible Customs Duty based on tariff classification and origin. The CBSA duty/tax estimator is the entry point.
- Clearing customs is not permission to sell
- Health Canada, CCPSA product-safety, and labelling rules still apply. 1688 listing claims do not prove Canadian compliance for children's products, electronics, or cosmetics.

Are small 1688 shipments to Canada tax-free?
Not reliably. CUSMA courier relief may waive duty under CA$150 and tax under CA$40 in some cases, but it does not cover all shipments and goods from China are not automatically exempt. Assume GST/HST can apply.
How much is GST/HST on imports?
GST is 5%, and HST ranges up to 15% depending on the province, applied on most imported goods, with possible Customs Duty on top. Use the CBSA estimator for your case.
Can I sell 1688 products on Shopify in Canada?
Often yes, but compare landed cost and compliance. Health Canada, CCPSA, and labelling rules apply; 1688 listings do not prove compliance.
Do I need a customs broker?
For ongoing commercial imports, a broker helps with tariff classification, valuation, and clearance. We surface the questions; a broker confirms the numbers.
What happens if the product is restricted or needs specialist compliance advice?
The check flags visible restricted-product, carrier, certification, and platform-compliance signals. A high-risk or unclear case can end in Manual review or Stop. It is not legal or customs advice, so regulated categories still need the appropriate specialist before you pay.
What evidence do I receive after goods reach the China warehouse?
When receiving and photo evidence are included in your approved quote, you receive dated photos of the visible cartons, labels, and contents before the next handoff. Those photos do not by themselves prove product performance, full compliance, or defect-free goods; deeper inspection is a separate approved scope.
Does Supplymo buy immediately after I submit a product?
No. Submission starts a check only. A supplier purchase can begin only after a written quote is prepared and explicitly approved.
Can the workflow stop after the first check?
Yes. The result may recommend a sample, more information, manual review, a different route, or stopping before payment.
